February 2017 Newsletter

What a brilliant meeting this month, it was lovely to see Iris back and all the visitors, we had 42 ladies and I hope that you all enjoyed the speaker. I can tell you she was very nervous about demonstrating baking, contouring and the halo! but thought you were all really lovely. Our programme planners try very hard to provide you all with a varied year and I think they do a very good job. If you would like to order any of the products you saw demonstrated either call Alice on 07525206873 or visit www.youniqueproducts.com/alicecoleman.

Next month we have Lorraine King from Creek Creative at Faversham demonstrating sugar free baking.

The first coffee morning of the year takes place in Frinsted VH Saturday 4th March at 10.30, we are manning the cake stall. This is a really good coffee morning and all proceeds will go to Silverline, the Charity that aims to alleviate loneliness in the elderly. Please come along and support us. There are cakes, books, bric a brac and a good raffle. If you have cakes but are unable to come please let me know and we will take them for you.

Milstead Horticultural Society has their AGM Friday 10th March and Jenny would love to see as many people as possible joining the group this year. She is booking a lot of good speakers in an attempt to keep the group strong but needs support, so even if you can’t make the 10th please speak to her if you would like to join (it is just £3.50 per person).

The Rotary club have an indoor boot sale at Tunstall VH on Saturday 11th March 10-12. If you would like to book a table please contact Denise.

The first meeting of the Craft Club will take place on Tuesday 14th March 1pm at Joyce’s house. We will let all those who have shown interest know what we will be doing ASAP. So far we have 15 ladies on the list, if you didn’t put your name down please let me know. We are really pleased that this has proved to be a popular idea.

We will be going to the Old Forge in East Street, Sittingbourne on Thursday 16th March at 2pm. This should be a really interesting trip (with no travel). The cost is £10 including afternoon tea.

Our Quiz Night is going to be held at the village hall on Friday 31st March 7.00 for 7.30. It is £7 per person and we need teams of 6-8 but don’t be put off if you haven’t the numbers as we will place you with others. There will be a nice supper too!

Marcelle is coordinating the new book club, she is planning an informal club where members discuss books they have read. If you are interested please speak to Marcelle.

There is a Spring Garden Day at Canterbury Academy on Wednesday 5th April. It is just £10 for the day; the head gardener at Hever is the first speaker with a Chelsea Gold medal flower arranger in the afternoon.

If you play darts BCL has a one day tournament organised for the 22nd April 10-4 at Kennington VH. I might have to give this one a miss.

Four of us are attending the resolution meeting at Chartham VH on Monday 24th April. If you didn’t put your name down just let us know and we can apply for a ticket. It is £6.50 for a good informative debate plus a great lunch! It is a new idea from BCL to involve East Kent ladies in the resolution process. It helps to understand the bigger picture and does make you feel more included.

Next month’s trading stall will be books, please bring along any good books you have finished with, please remember that if your books don’t sell we ask you to take them home with you. If you have an idea for the trading table just speak to Lynne or Jenny.

Next month we will be collecting Pennies For Friendship, so please bring along some spare change. This supports a project in Africa bringing clean water.

We will also have envelopes for a draw for a place at Denman; all you need is £1.

This month’s film will be Manchester By the Sea starting at 7.30pm Thursday 23rd February. If you would like to go please contact Barbara.
