February 2020

What an inspiring woman. It has certainly made me think and I will double my efforts to recycle and buy less stuff! If you want to know more about Kresse and Elvis check out their website www.elvisandkresse.com, twitter @elvisandkresse or their FB page.

With that in mind if you have any clothes that you no longer want please feel free to bring them along to see if somebody else wants it. I don’t mean huge bags of stuff just the occasional item that you feel may be good for somebody else. A kind of dress exchange without any money. Let’s see how it goes. Kresse has said that she will invite us to the Mill when the forge is active!

I was extremely remiss last night as I didn’t mention that Ann Martin, who was a member of MwF for a few years, but a federation trustee for many years, has passed away.  She was a lovely lady and our thoughts go to her family at this sad time.

So lovely to see so many of you again last night and a warm welcome to Peta. Look forward to seeing you all next month. We have another very inspiring speaker!

East Kent are organising a Wisteria Walk on Tuesday 12th May either am or pm. Please let Marcelle know if you would like to go.

On Tuesday 28th April there is a coach trip to Greenwich organised by East Kent Federation.  The details are in your East Kent magazine. To book onto this see Marcelle.

There are several trips on P10-11 of your East Kent news. Please see Marcelle to book onto any of them. These are always really well organised outings.

The East Kent Annual Council Meeting is on Wednesday 25th March at Folkestone. There are two very interesting speakers; Helen Sharman, the first British person in space and Colin Woolgar a counter terrorism security adviser for Kent.

The Annual Meeting of the National WI is at The Royal Albert Hall on Thursday 4th June. There are observer tickets available and a coach is organised.

Please put Saturday 4th July in your diaries. This is our annual Charity coffee morning at Frinsted. We will need cakes, plants, raffle and tombola prizes please. We also would love to see you there!

We have three fund raisers this year; a Quiz on Friday 27th March, a Wine Tasting on Friday 25th September and a bingo night with sausage and mash on Friday 23rd October. These will be an enormous fun way to raise money for your WI. There is a list for the quiz night to add your name to. You don’t need a team!

If you are interested in learning more about the Resolution chosen this year there is a meeting at Chartham VH on Monday 20th April 10.00. The cost is £8.

This year’s outings are:

  • 18th June Belmont Garden Tour with the head gardener £7 with optional cream tea for £6.50. Please put your name on the list. This will be open to friends and family if we do not get the required 12 needed. We would probably meet at 2pm. See Di
  • The Chatham Synagogue Wednesday 17th June, tour starts at 7pm. The cost is just £2.50. Car sharing available. See Angela
  • Downderry Lavender Nursery in July
  • Fort Amherst Friday 18th September this will be an evening tour. Be warned it may be scary!! Time to follow.
  • Possibly a trip to see the Strictly come dancing dresses.

This month’s WI craft club is at Joyce’s house at 1pm next Wednesday. All are welcome.

There is a silent auction at Tunstall VH Saturday 7th March 10-12

Mandy is organising another Travelling Trends fashion show on Wednesday 22nd April in Bredgar VH. The cost is just £8 and the clothes are really fabulous.

Milstead Church is having a Garden Safari on Sunday 5th July. The Old Rectory, Hoggeshaws, Rose Cottage plus others will be open with tea and cake. All profits go to our beautiful church.

As I said the Centenary committee are busy organising our 100th year in 2022. We will have our Milstead w Frinsted Book launch on Saturday 13th November 2021 to start our 100th year. This should be a very interesting day with lots of archive material available to look through. It will be open to anybody.

I have just found out that the Group meeting this year will take place on May 4th at Tunstall VH. The speaker will be Martyn Harrison singing Musical Mysteries. Please let me know if you wish to attend.

Next month’s meeting is on Thursday 5th March.
