MAY Newsletter 2016

 

It was nice to see the two new ladies on Thursday joining us again. We hope that you all found it interesting and enjoyed the debate on the Resolutions.

Our film club are going to see Florence Foster Jenkins on Wednesday 18th May 8pm at Faversham cinema. If you would like to join us please let Barbara or myself know.

Our June meeting on the 2nd will be a Bring your Daughter, Granddaughter, mother, niece to WI night.

Milstead Church is celebrating the life of our Queen on Sunday 12th June at 6pm. It would be really lovely if some ladies could join us. Lena Jordan will be talking about the village in 1926. There will also be an event on the cricket field earlier in the day, more details will follow.

We will be meeting in Whitstable on Friday 17th June at 17.30 for our Tootsie Trot. A treasure hunt with local clues leading to the pub! It is a really good evening and the more people the better. Again more details will follow

In September we are visiting Quex Cotton Powell museum. We will meet at Quex on the 7th. The cost is £14 including a cream tea. Time to follow.

The visit to the Sikh Temple, Gravesend is booked for 8th November meeting at 11am. There is no fee, just a donation.

Another date for the end of the summer is our Beetle Drive on the 2nd September. This is a fast, hectic noisy night out and brilliant fun!

The Horticultural Society (not WI) is looking for new members; they have a great trip and interesting meetings each year. If you are interested please let me know and I can give you the contact details. If you have any ideas for the WI entry for the Annual Show August 27th, the theme is Rio Olympics 2016, please let me know.

Next month’s hostesses are Elaine B, Jan Fee and Iris.

The June speaker is John Guyver demonstrating bread making.

April Newsletter 2016

Welcome to the new ladies that joined us tonight. There may have been lots of things that you did not understand tonight but it will all become clear in time!!

Our film club are going to see the highly acclaimed film Room on Monday 11th at 8pm, if you would like to join us please let Barbara or myself know.

We are having our annual Quiz Night on Friday 15th April at 19.00 for 19.30. It is a really good evening and if you do not have enough people to fill a table (6-8) just let us know and you can sit on a table with others. If you are interested please let me know.

Painters Forstal w Selling have invited us to their party 19th April at 2.15pm at Eastling VH ME13 0BA. If you want to come with us and see how another WI works please let me know ASAP.

We are hosting the Bredgar Group Meeting this month on Wednesday April 20th at 19.30. The cost is £1.50 per person and the entertainment is by Martin Harrison with ‘Mediterranean melodies – a cruise in song’. It will be a lovely evening and we would like to have as many of our ladies as possible. This is the bi-annual meeting where the WI’s within the Bredgar Group all get together and is a really good way of meeting other Groups and ladies. Please let me know if you will be attending but haven’t put your name on the list that went round. We will need food for the evening and would like finger food just like you did for our birthday party last year.

We are visiting Belmont House and Gardens on April 26th, meeting 10.30 at Belmont. The tour costs £7 and food is extra, you are welcome to bring partners or friends. This will be a lovely day and a great start to spring. If you haven’t put your name down please let me or Mandy know.

We will be meeting at Rodmersham Coffee Shop on Wednesday 4th May at 2pm. Please let me know if you are coming so I can give the shop an idea of how many of us will be there. It’s a nice chance for a chat and a coffee (and maybe cake!!)

Date of next meeting is Thursday 12th May – this is the annual meeting where we decide how our WI is going to vote on the Resolutions. There is information on our Facebook page Milstead with Frinsted Women’s Institute. We also have a presentation on The Importance of Language.

March 2016 Newsletter

March Newsletter 2016

This Saturday 5th March we will be helping to host a coffee morning at Frinsted 10.30 – 12.00. We are responsible for the raffle (I have raffle tickets)! but we also need donations of cakes and bric-a-brac. All money raised goes to Whizz Kidz and it is a good chance for a nice get together. If you are not sure where to go or want someone to go with just let me know. If you can make a cake but can’t attend just pop it to a committee member.

We are going to Faversham for a film night on Monday 14th March 8pm to see The Homesman. If you are interested please let Barbara know.

East Kent Federation is organizing a trip to the Houses of Parliament. It will cost £23. The coach leaves Sittingbourne at 9.20 (other pickups are arranged). The coach will leave London at 17.30. If you are interested please call me ASAP as Federation need numbers immediately.

We went last year to the first one and it was a very interesting discussion which shed light onto the subject. There is a lunch included in the cost of £6.50. Please let me know if you are interested in attending ASAP.

January 2016 Newsletter

 

Hello Ladies, hope you all had a lovely Christmas and are looking forward to a fun year. We try to think of events that you would enjoy but if there is anywhere you keep meaning to go to but never get around to it please let either myself or Mandy know and we can organise a trip.

We have a coffee afternoon in Faversham at Creek Creative (on Abbey Street) on Thursday 28th January at 2pm. It is a lovely venue which doubles as an Art Gallery. Please come and join us if you can. If you don’t want to go on your own one of us will happily take you. Just let me know.

The East Kent Annual Meeting is being held at Folkestone this year on March 23rd.  We have already ordered our tickets but if you fancy coming let me know and I will see if there are any spare tickets. If you didn’t book this year I highly recommend it for next year, the speakers are really interesting and it is a lovely atmosphere where you really feel a part of a wonderful institution.

Mandy has organised a trip to Belmont House on April 26th meeting at 10.30 for tea. The cost will be £7 for the tour of this wonderful house and gardens.  Lunch will take place after the tour. Please let me or Mandy know if you would like to join us.

On September 7th we are going to another really interesting house and gardens. Quex Park and Cotton Powel museum in Birchington is amazing. There is a wonderful farm shop and gift shop, garden centre and a lovely restaurant. The trip is just £13.50 for the tour and a cream tea. Names to Mandy or me please. Frinsted village hall is the venue for the first coffee morning on March 5th at 10.00. We are in charge of the raffle this year. There will be a wonderful cake stall, book stall, bric a brac and tea and coffee. It is a lovely social event organised so that villagers who had been cut off all winter could meet up and socialise whilst raising money for various charities. This year’s charity is Whizz Kidz. Please come along and join in or if you can’t please could you donate cakes and raffle prizes. www.whizz-kidz.org.uk

There are two birthday parties coming up and there are still places available. Lynsted with Teynham have their party on 3rd February at 2pm. I do not know who their speaker is at the moment. There is one place available if you would like to join Lyn and me.

Bapchild and Tonge have their party on 18th February at 2.30pm. There are three places still available. Their speaker is Claire Ashby – Camp Bastion. Sounds interesting! Please let me know ASAP so I can respond with numbers.

That’s all at the moment, but please read your EK News as it contains all the events that are organised by our Federation.

December 2015 Newsletter

Hope you all enjoyed our last meeting; Jo Arnell is such a nice lady. Five of us went to her beautiful house in Appledore today to make a wreath; it was such a ‘Christmassy’ day. Michael Buble, mulled wine and a huge amount of choice for making a wreath. I have decided to make it an annual outing. I shall be booking soon as she is very popular, if you want to join me next year please let me know.

Tunstall are having a birthday party on Thursday 10th at 7.30pm with Ray Spiller as the entertainment, there are still a couple of places available.

On the same day Rodmersham are having their 90th, possibly one of their last parties as their numbers are dwindling. The party starts at 2.30pm.

Our Christmas lunch will be at the Plough, Lewson Street on Saturday 12th December at 1.00 PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF TIME!!

After Christmas we will be meeting in Faversham at Creek Creative on Thursday 28th January at 2pm for a cup of tea and a nice slice of cake. Please let me know if you will be coming, if you want a lift let me know.

Kent Federation have their AM at Folkestone March 23rd, it is just £10 for a brilliant days entertainment. We have sent off for tickets but if you are interested please let us know and we will see if we can get another ticket.

In two weeks’ time it will be our birthday party, hopefully you’ve all got an idea of what food you are making, and if you have any questions just call Lyn or me. Don’t forget we are meeting at 7pm.

There is a Christmas bazaar at Milstead Village hall on Saturday 28th November 10-12. Please come along and support the village.  We will have lots of nice things just in time for Christmas.

The other event that weekend is a Christmas tree festival in St Michael’s church in Sittingbourne. We

Jeff Hook will be providing the questions at a Music Quiz in the Village Hall on Saturday 5th December starting at 7pm. The cost is just £5. Come and join Lyn and me ………

The Bredgar Group of WIs have their Group Meeting on Thursday 8th October at 7.45 Tunstall Village Hall. History of the Medway Queen is the topic of the talk. At present there are ten names on my list but if you fancy it please let me know ASAP.

Borden WI have their 66th birthday party on 13th October at 2.15pm, the entertainment will be Ian Porter – Young Dickens.  It is president plus two and I have Lyn, Barbara and Diana Cramp.

We will be going to the Creek Creative, Faversham on Saturday 17th October 9.45 to learn about ‘free from’ cookery with Lorraine. It is free with tea, coffee and cakes available to buy on the day. At present 9 of us are going but if you didn’t get the chance to put your name down call me ASAP and I’ll add you to the list. I know some of you can’t make that day so we will see how it goes and arrange another date, possibly 21st November.

Our 93rd Birthday is on Thursday 19th November and will be a fun evening. We have entertainment by the Free Guard Singers and it will be a good evening. As we said we would like a nice table of canapés and savouries. If you haven’t put your name down please do so next month, there will be a lot of people so we will need plenty of food.

There is a coach trip to London on Friday 11th December leaving Sittingbourne station 9am going to Borough Market then Covent Garden finishing off with a visit to the Oxford St lights. It is £22 and non-members are invited. Please let me know ASAP if you would like to join Lyn, Lindsey and myself.

Our Christmas meal is on Saturday 12th December 1.30pm at the Plough, Lewson St. the menus is attached if you haven’t given me your choices yet. It is £16.95 for two courses and £21 for three.

Mandy is planning lots of good trips for next year so watch this space!

We are going to Jo Arnell from Hornbrook Manor on Saturday 5th December 2-5. £25 which includes all materials, wine and nibbles. Four of us are going at present. If you want to come and get all festive please let me know ASAP.

Film night is Friday 16th October 7.45 at the Avenue Theatre. We will be seeing The Falling. Names to Barbara ASAP.

The annual meeting of the East Kent federation is at Folkestone Wednesday 23rd march 2016. It is just £10 and is a really brilliant day. There is business for a few minutes (which throws some light onto the workings of the WI) and then there is lots of really interesting and entertaining speakers. I need names ASAP. IF you haven’t been before I cannot recommend it enough.

See you all next month at our Annual Meeting. It is an important meeting and the more members that are able to attend the better.

Milstead w Frinsted WI September Newsletter 2015

Really nice to see so many of you tonight and welcome to the two new ladies.

This Saturday is our trip to Walmer Castle to celebrate the WI centenary, see you all at Sittingbourne Station at 11.45.

 

Friday 11th September is our Beetle Drive, for those of you who haven’t been before it is a silly, fun, noisy game with a pair of dice and a pen and paper, it’s not rocket science!  If your name isn’t on the list and you fancy coming just let me know. Otherwise see you all at the Village Hall for a 7pm start. We supply all the food just bring your own drink.

 

The inter WI quiz (aka The Top Team Quiz) is on Monday 21st September at Phoenix House 6.45pm. If any of you are free we still need one player and I need help in the kitchen please!
