OCTOBER 2022
Newsletter
There was a moment of panic last night when I thought the speaker might not be arriving – but lucky for us she arrived; albeit a little harassed! Aren’t we glad she did, as always Helen delivered a very well researched and interesting talk.
A huge thank you again to Denise and Mike who provided their wines and time free of charge to us. It is very appreciated. We managed to make a profit of just under £390. If you have any fund-raising ideas, please let me know.
For those ladies who were unable to attend last night I spoke briefly about the ‘hostess’ duties. When we prepare our annual programme, we do not know who may not renew the following year, so sometimes there are names on it who are no longer members. When it is your turn, we ask that you contact the other names, if you are not sure just call me. Between the three of you, you decide what each of you will bring. Something savory, a cake, flowers for top table – it’s up to you. We do not expect you to go to too much trouble, unless you want to! It can be shop bought or homemade, it really doesn’t matter. Our lives are very busy these days and baking can be low on the agenda. When you arrive earlier than usual, I will be there. The hostesses lay the table, get the urn on, cups out, etc. You do not need to bring milk. Ten minutes before the speaker finishes you make the tea and then tidy up afterwards. Please don’t worry about it, it is not supposed to be stressful, but a way of each of us doing our bit. Any queries please ask me.
Next month would usually be our annual meeting but the dates have changed according to amendments made during Covid. This year our annual meeting will take place in March.
Our 100th birthday is fast approaching. The committee are planning a lovely evening for you all. I have the list and will be calling any names not on it just to make sure before I send the menus to the caterers. We have booked Joy Dey to entertain us. She has been to us before and is a lovely lady.
The hall will be ready for 6.30 and the evening will start at 7pm. If you know you may be late just let me know please.
Please take as many photos as you can on the night so we can save them for prosperity.
We will provide a welcome drink but feel free to bring your own drink.
The menu is
Potted Ham Hock, pineapple chutney and sourdough
Or Brie, caramelized onion tartlet
Breast of chicken, pressed leek, and serrano Boulanger potatoes
Or Butternut squash, mushroom, and spinach wellington
Lemon Posset and shortbread.
If you have any dietary requirements, allergies etc. please let me know.
Barbara will let us know as soon as she can the next film. Again, if you have any thoughts, please let her know.
We will meet for coffee on Tuesday 1st November 1.30pm at Macnades.if you want to come, please let me know and I am happy to drive from my house if you want a lift.
If you want to join us for a stained-glass workshop on Monday 17th October at 7pm we still have a place left. It is just £10. We will be making a stained-glass angel, please do not worry if you are not at all artistic, I am not either. It is just nice to try something different and it is always really good when we meet in smaller groups. Its hard on the meeting night to chat to each other, the smaller meetings are where we can get to know each other better.
If you fancy Bowling, we are organizing a trip to Sittingbourne on Saturday 14th January. We will let you know price and times when we have ideas of numbers. Please let me know if you are interested so I can book it.
There are several events and trips organized by the East Kent Federation which are on the EK news digital newsletter.
Don’t forget to check out the East Kent FB page, all their events are on there. I also try to put them on our FB page. IF you are not a member of our group yet, please join it. It’s an easy way to keep up to date and informed.
Next month we have Laure Meloy with Delivering like a Diva, the hostesses on the card are Linda. Yvonne and Jenny. Any problems girls just let me know.
If anyone fancies a trip to the wartime tunnels at Maidstone Grammar School let me know and if enough of us want to go, we can arrange a date to suit.
The St Michaels Church Christmas Tree festival takes place this year 25-26 November. If anyone fancies giving it a go this year, please let me know.
Milstead Village Hall are arranging a Music Quiz on Friday 9th December, just £7 a head. Please see Janice if you are interested.
Sending all our love to both Elaine and Jean who are both unable to attend at the moment – we miss you both.
Next month the annual subs scheme starts, this is not at all compulsory just a way of making life a bit easier. See Dilys if you haven’t put your name down.
