APRIL 2019 NEWSLETTER

Milstead w Frinsted Newsletter

APRIL 2019.

What an evening! A huge thank you to the committee for working so hard to make last night run smoothly.  We had a lot of visitors from the other Group WI’s plus a President from Graveney WI. I hope you all enjoyed the speaker and the Minstrels. I was mesmerised by the Schoolgirls War, so interesting. There were also a lot of new ladies wishing to join our happy ranks. I know we will make them all welcome. The more the merrier!

It has been a busy month. Ten ladies went to the ACM at Folkestone, in what was East Kent’s Centenary. We all had a really good day – apart from me – I got a parking ticket!!! Prue Leith was very easy to listen to, she has had a very full career so far, and she is just 79! She told us that her grandmother advised her to spend as much as possible on glasses as that is what people see when they look at you!

There are 16 of us going to the George Newnham this Sunday, if your name isn’t down but you would like to come please call me.

The soup and sandwich afternoon was a great success and certainly something we can build upon. We hope to organise another later in the year. It was a nice relaxed hour or two to chat and socialise. Another big thank you to the committee who made the soup and sandwiches and a nice profit too!

A few of us went to the Criterion Theatre, Bluetown last month to watch a Rodgers and Hammerstein show. Such lovely music with a lovely cream tea!

Finally last month we held our Quiz Night. It was a fantastic quiz with gorgeous food; we all had a brilliant laugh! If you have not been to one before look out for next March!

Here are the upcoming events:

Painters Forstal w Selling WI have invited us to their birthday party on Tuesday April 16th 2pm. This takes place at Eastling VH. Please let Marcelle know if you would like to go.

This month’s film will be Fisherman’s Friend showing at Faversham cinema Wednesday 1st May at 7.45pm. Please reserve your place with Barbara on 07986 840409

East Kent Federation is arranging a trip to Eltham Palace on Wednesday 8th May. The price will be £18 for members of English Heritage and £32 for others. If you want to join us please let Marcelle know. These trips are always well organised and fun. The coach pick up will be from Sittingbourne station.

On 11th June 2pm we are planning to take a river trip in Canterbury, please let us know if you are interested.

We are visiting Provender House on Tuesday 2nd July at 2.30pm for a guided tour with tea and cake (optional). The price is £11 for concessions with £6.50 for tea and cake. I will collect the money in May.

Our Annual Garden Party will take place on Thursday July 4th in Janice’s garden. We will have a great entertainer and a BBQ. Husbands are invited too. Please put the date in your diaries and pray for sunshine!!

The Bredgar Group of WI’s are celebrating East Kent’s Centenary on July 11th at Upchurch Golf Club. The cost is £26 for three courses. I have a menu but won’t gather choices until later. Please note the change of date if you have put your name down. We need a £5 deposit at the April meeting. Pam Draper hasn’t had much of a response. If the event is cancelled we will still go out on that day, so keep it in your diaries.

There is a Garden Party to celebrate East Kent’s Centenary on Monday July 22nd at St Edmunds School, Canterbury. Please let Marcelle know if you want to attend. There are two sittings and the cost is £15 .I believe that Vena will be demonstrating Tai-Chi at the party and there are lots of things going on.

I have enquired at Shepherd Neame about the cost of a tour and dinner on October 9th at 11.45. Before I book I need to see who is interested and if I can drum up interest elsewhere to make the numbers up. Please let me know if you fancy it.

I am also enquiring to see who would be interested in a Christmas Party night at the Great Danes (it’s called Christmas Beatles) 2/3/4th December £30 for a 3 course meal. We would need to book early.

The Art Course is now booked for 6 people on Monday 10th, 17th and 24th June 7-9pm. Helen Neaves assures me that by the end of the third week you will all be able to draw! Some members have put their names down but if you haven’t got round to it but are interested please let me know.

At next month’s meeting 9th May we will be making small posies to distribute to the residents of Elvy Court Care home. Could you all please bring in a small bunch of flowers, and if a couple of ladies could bring in some greenery that would be great. You do not need to have any talent. This is something we do to spread a little happiness and to show that people do care.

The Coffee mornings have recommenced at Frinsted on the first Saturday in the month. Next month’s date is Saturday 4th May We will be raising money for the Freedom Project on Saturday July 6th 10.30-12.00. This is a charity which fosters dogs when a family need to go to a domestic violence refuge. We will need cakes, brick a brac, tombola prizes, and people to help us again. If you are free to help could you please let me know?

The Horticultural Society has a great year planned. You do not need to be particularly green fingered, just interested. If you would like to join at the cost of £3.50 see Jenny. There is a plant sale on Saturday 27th April, a trip to Hole Park Rolveden 5th May, Cheese and wine at Torry Hill 7th June and a trip to Wisley on 21st July.  Well done Jenny!

Looking forward to seeing you all next month Thursday May 9th, don’t forget your flowers!
